The best cycling statistics tool
A tool I want to share with you is Statshunters. This tool is a gamechanger for me in seeing my progress and helping me create new routes. Let’s dive into the features and see how I use Statshunters.
Using the grid to create new routes
I have been using the grid feature to create new engaging routes and go to places I have not seen before. In those 4 years of riding in South-Holland I still find new paths close to home I have not seen.
The red lines are the ridden routes, red blocks are non-attached grids, green are attached, blue is the maximum possible grid square.
It’s also pretty cool to see where you have been already in planning new trips. As you can see I have not been much into Brabant. This means I can plan a ride to find new routes in that area.
Get advanced statistics
Statshunters gives you more insight in your numbers. Showing you your average speed per year, month or the amount of KM’s compared by the month in each year. I have been using this to see how far I have come.
As you can see I have been training a lot this year, exceeding my maximum kilometers by a lot. It’s also noticable to see when I had an injury (start of 2023).
Get badges when you visit places
Statshunters has this little neat feature that gives you badges if you go to certain places. There are over a thousand badges to get including the most famous climbs, cycling monuments, castles and statues of famous cyclists.
Some badges I tackled in the Dutch mountains
I use these badges to find the best climbs in the area to tackle. It’s so satisfying to see a whole area with green badges.
Connecting Statshunters to your route creation apps
Statshunters has a plugin for Chrome browsers to add their grid heatmap overlay over your route creation tools such as Strava or Komoot. This helps me create routes to places and grids I have not yet visited.
Integrating Statshunters with Komoot
As you can see this gives an overlay of the places you have been and still need to go. Which makes planning more fun, because you know you will see a new place every time.
Why use Statshunters?
As you can see it gives so much insights in your cycling history, showing you how you are progressing and where you have been on the bike.
I would definitely recommend you check this tool out. It will make planning rides and looking at your cycling so much fun!
